What is ACT?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT, pronounced as in "ACTion") is a type of psychotherapy that helps you accept the difficulties that come with life and pursue your personal values. It is a ground-up therapy developed to target ways in which humans get stuck and to optimize mechanisms of change. While not the only way, it is a highly effective way to move forwards in our lives.
Essentially, ACT looks at your character traits and behaviors to assist you in reducing avoidant coping styles. ACT also addresses your commitment to making changes, and what to do about it when you can't stick to your goals or to your intentions.
By using different techniques, all designed to enhance our psychological flexibility, ACT enables you to get unstuck of past or future problems or worries and to get effective in reaching towards what really matters to you on a personal and unique level.
ACT focuses on 3 areas:

Hi, my name is Mirjam de Vries and I am a licensed and passionate Psychotherapist in the Vaud area of Switserland.
My main workbase lies in Morges, where I work in my private practice and receive my individual clients and couples. In addition to being in private practice I have long worked in the academic world of scientific research, indulging in the exhilarating combination of the psychological perspectif (emotions, defenses), the medical perspectif (needs of cancer patients and their doctors, within realistic boundaries) and a touch of philosophy about it all.
While I have spent most of my career in academia and in a multitude of professional environments within the field of clinical psychology, I attempt to utilize my skills in various professional and creative settings.
Originally from the Netherlands, I have lived and worked in Switzerland for over 10 years. I am a member of several professional associations, such as the Swiss Federation of Psychologists (the FSP).
My professional background is in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, a widely used and scientifically recognized form of therapy, although my interests have led me to encounter various other forms of therapy, all part of clinical psychology.
I receive adults for individual, couple or group sessions.
My tasks are to listen - actively and without judgement - and to share my clinical experience and theoretical knowledge with the goal of helping you reaching towards what really matters to you on a personal and unique level.
I believe in providing each of my clients with a customized approach to maximize the value from each therapeutic session.
